Sneeze Fits, Stifles and Build-Ups: Community Terms

Updated September 30, 2026 1 min read Markdown

Fits, stifles and build-ups are common terms used to describe different parts of a sneeze or sneezing episode. They can appear in video titles, WAV descriptions, fiction, artwork and creator tags.

What is a sneeze fit?

A sneeze fit means several sneezes occur within a relatively short period. You may also see the words multiples, multiple sneezes or a number describing how many sneezes are in a recording.

What is a stifled sneeze?

A stifled sneeze is a sneeze that is suppressed or held back rather than released normally. In fiction and roleplay, stifling can also describe a character attempting to stay quiet or avoid drawing attention.

What is a build-up?

The build-up is the period immediately before a sneeze. For some recordings or stories, that moment is a significant part of the scene: changes in breathing, false starts, pauses or the sense that the sneeze is about to happen.

These terms can overlap

A creator can publish a natural sneeze fit with long build-ups, an induced recording containing several stifles, or fictional writing that combines all three. The terms describe characteristics of the material rather than separate creator identities.
